Chikoo Tree updates from Liz Pepper Gardens Forest Farm

 

Every corner of our forest farm teems with life and vitality. Today, we're delighted to share the promising progress of our Chikoo trees (Manilkara zapota), as they continue to flourish under our attentive care. Though their fruits have yet to reach maturity, the signs are auspicious, offering a glimpse into the bountiful future that awaits. 

 From the moment they were tender saplings, we've dedicated ourselves to providing them with the optimal growing conditions and nurturing environment they require to thrive. Here's a closer look at the care and maintenance practices that have contributed to their flourishing growth:

- Chikoo trees are sun-loving plants that thrive in well-drained soil. In our forest farm, we've planted them in locations where they receive ample sunlight throughout the day, allowing them to photosynthesize and grow vigorously. Additionally, we've ensured that the soil is rich in organic matter, providing essential nutrients for healthy root development and robust growth.

-  Adequate moisture is vital for the establishment and growth of Chikoo trees, particularly during the dry seasons. We've implemented a regular watering regimen, ensuring that the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. 

- To encourage strong branching and enhance fruit production, we've conducted selective pruning of the Chikoo trees, removing any dead or diseased branches and shaping the canopy for optimal sunlight penetration. Regular inspection for pests and diseases allows us to address any issues promptly, safeguarding the health and vitality of the trees.

- Providing Chikoo trees with a balanced fertilizer regimen during the growing season ensures that they have access to essential nutrients for vigorous growth and fruit development. We've opted for organic fertilizers to promote soil health and minimize environmental impact, aligning with our commitment to sustainable farming practices.

While the fruits of our Chikoo trees have yet to reach maturity, we're encouraged by the promising signs of growth and vitality they exhibit. The trees are adorned with lush foliage, their branches laden with clusters of developing fruits that hold the promise of sweetness and succulence.
